Pearl's New Skates

Pearl's birthday present of snowy white skates with charming red tassels immediately sends her into rapturous fantasies of being an ice ballerina. After waiting ages for the pond to freeze, she at last gets to go skating. Clad in a red skating skirt, Pearl turns up her nose at her friend Thistle (who still has double-bladed skates), takes to the ice, and immediately falls flat on her face. Completely dispirited, she goes straight home and stays indoors the next day, watching everyone else head to the pond. But Uncle Jack's kind offer to take her skating early the next morning, before anyone is out, might be just the ticket. Accompanied by black line drawings filled with colorful, wintery tones.
